A New Era for Chelsea Athletics
Chelsea High School announced this week that Lee Miller, the most decorated coach in the history of the Hornets boys soccer program, will assume the position of athletic director, replacing Michael Stallings, who has been promoted to Shelby County Schools District Supervisor of Athletics.
Miller’s tenure since 2007 has been marked by four quarterfinal appearances, three area championships and two Final Four trips, the most recent of which saw the Hornets reach the semifinals in 2025 for the first time since the 2010‑11 season.
While stepping into the administrative role, Miller will continue to lead the boys soccer team, a dual responsibility he says will allow him to champion athletic excellence across all sports while maintaining a direct connection with student‑athletes.
Balancing the Bench and the Boardroom
Miller’s vision centers on sustaining the school’s recent competitive momentum and expanding support for under‑represented programs. He plans to work closely with district officials, coaches and community partners to create a cohesive athletic strategy that benefits every student.
The appointment reflects a broader trend of promoting experienced coaches to leadership positions within Shelby County Schools, a move administrators say will leverage on‑field insight to shape policy, resource allocation and long‑term program development.
