The Oahe Hockey Association will gather supporters on August 14 in Fort Pierre for a fundraising evening that blends hockey heritage with community ambition.
Three‑time Stanley Cup champion Brian Rafalski, a Hall of Fame defenseman with eleven NHL seasons, will share reflections on his storied career and the pathways that shaped his success.
Joining him will be Carter Sanderson, the first player from South Dakota ever selected in the NHL Draft, who will discuss the significance of representation and the dreams it ignites for young athletes across the state.
Capitalizing on the Future
The event marks the culmination of the association’s Capitalize on the Future campaign, which has secured more than $3.1 million from donors to transform the Ice Barn into a spectator‑ready venue.
The renovation adds expanded locker rooms, modern concessions, upgraded restrooms, dedicated parking, and state‑of‑the‑art spectator seating, while also installing advanced fire suppression and sound systems to meet contemporary safety standards.
Beyond hockey, the upgraded facility will host figure‑skating programs and a variety of community events, reinforcing the Ice Barn’s role as a year‑round hub for winter sports in South Dakota.
Tickets are priced at $50 per person or $350 for a table of eight, and attendees are asked to observe business‑casual dress, underscoring the event’s blend of elegance and grassroots spirit.
Organizers hope the evening will not only fill the Ice Barn’s new seats but also strengthen local hockey opportunities, encouraging participation among the 2,000 youth the association serves annually and supporting over 130 games and tournaments each year.
