Liam Thompson has been named the top assistant coach for the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh men's basketball program, a move announced by head coach Steve Schweer this week.
Thompson arrives after a standout tenure at Illinois Wesleyan University, where he served as an assistant coach and offensive coordinator and helped the team post a 26-5 record while capturing multiple conference titles in 2026.
His coaching journey also includes a season at Wabash College, where he guided the squad to a 17-9 finish in 2025, and a playing stint at Elizabethtown College, where he was voted team captain in his senior year.
Off the court, Thompson holds a bachelor's degree in political science and a master's in sport management, credentials that blend analytical insight with practical strategy.
Players who have worked under him speak highly of his development focus; Noah Cleveland earned D3hoops National Rookie of the Year honors, while Mason Funk received fifth-team All-American recognition.
Thompson's contributions were recognized as part of the 2026 CCIW Coaching Staff of the Year at Illinois Wesleyan, underscoring his impact on a program that consistently competes at the highest level.
A Strategic Addition for the Titans
Now at UW-Oshkosh, he joins a staff that includes Steve Schweer, Noah Cleveland, Mason Funk and Noah Hupmann, bringing a blend of championship experience and fresh ideas to the program.
The university's athletic director highlighted that Thompson's appointment aligns with the program's ambition to elevate recruiting, enhance offensive schemes and sustain competitive depth in the Midwest conference.
