Liberty University has released its ambitious Division I men’s ice hockey schedule for the 2026‑27 season, a slate that blends high‑profile matchups with a historic outdoor showcase.
The schedule pits the Flames against traditional powerhouses such as Ohio University and Niagara University, while also featuring contests with Adrian College, North Carolina State University and other regional rivals.
In total, 22 of the 34 regular‑season games will be played at the LaHaye Ice Center, the team’s home facility in Lynchburg, Virginia, ensuring a familiar environment for the majority of the campaign.
A highlight of the calendar arrives on January 8, 2027, when Liberty will stage its first ever outdoor game at Truist Stadium, a venue more commonly associated with college football, marking a bold new chapter for the program.
Head Coach Kirk Handy, now in his 27th season, expressed enthusiasm for the competitive lineup, noting that the schedule is designed to sharpen the team’s depth as it pursues an 11th consecutive appearance at the NCAA National Championships.
A Milestone on the Ice
The outdoor contest at Truist Stadium represents more than a novelty; it underscores the Flames’ growing stature and their desire to bring national attention to a program that has become a staple of collegiate hockey excellence.
Fans can expect a vibrant atmosphere as the team steps onto an open‑air rink, with the university promising a celebration that blends tradition with innovation.
