A New Era for Liberty Baseball
Liberty University announced this week that head baseball coach Bradley LeCroy has agreed to a contract extension that will keep him at the helm of the program through the 2031 season. The deal, which builds on the momentum of the past few years, underscores the administration’s confidence in LeCroy’s vision for the Flames.
The extension comes on the heels of a spectacular 2026 campaign in which the team posted a 43‑21 overall record, matching the school’s best mark in modern history. The Flames also captured a share of the Conference USA regular‑season title and earned their ninth appearance in an NCAA Regional, a milestone that had only been reached twice before.
Liberty’s run to the regional final saw them fall just short against a powerhouse Georgia squad, but the journey itself was a testament to the program’s rapid ascent. The Flames finished the season with a 21‑9 mark in conference play, securing second place and advancing to the C‑USA Championship game for the first time in three years.
Under LeCroy’s guidance, the program also enjoyed a draft‑rich year, with four players hearing their names called in the 2026 MLB Draft. Right‑hander Ben Blair, the 2026 C‑USA Pitcher of the Year, was selected 49th overall by the Tampa Bay Rays, while additional prospects were snapped up by the Oakland Athletics and the Colorado Rockies.
The Flames’ success was not limited to the diamond; they finished the season ranked No. 13 nationally in fielding percentage at 98.1, a statistic that reflects the team’s defensive consistency. Moreover, Liberty posted the eighth‑best road record in the country, winning 19 of 26 away games and proving they could compete on any surface.
Looking ahead, the extended contract gives LeCroy the stability to continue developing talent and to pursue the program’s ultimate goal: a College World Series appearance. With a recruiting class already in the pipeline and a culture that emphasizes both athletics and academics, the Flames appear poised to maintain their upward trajectory.
A Bright Future Ahead
The next five years promise to build on the foundation laid in 2026, as the Flames aim to translate their recent breakthroughs into sustained national relevance.
