The San Jose Sharks announced on Tuesday that they have reached an agreement with Czech defenseman Libor Hajek, inking him to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2026-27 season. The deal, which includes a clear path to the NHL roster, marks the latest move in the team’s effort to reinforce a blue line that has been in flux over the past few years.
Hajek spent the last three seasons with HC Dynamo Pardubice in the Czech Extraliga, where he emerged as a reliable presence on the ice. In 111 games he posted 13 goals and 32 points while posting a plus-minus rating of +26, numbers that have drawn the attention of the Sharks’ management.
The 28-year-old’s North American résumé includes a stint with the New York Rangers, where he debuted after being drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2016. Over five seasons in New York he recorded four goals and 12 points in 110 games, while his even-strength CorsiFor hovered at 39.4 percent, indicating solid puck-possession tendencies.
After a 2023-24 campaign with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the AHL, where he contributed to the club’s defensive depth, Hajek will report to the Sharks’ affiliate, the San Jose Barracuda. There he is expected to pair his veteran savvy with the organization’s next wave of blueliners, offering both on-ice guidance and a steady presence in the minors.
