A Strategic Reinforcement
The Tampa Bay Lightning announced that they have re‑signed defenseman Max Groshev to a two‑year, two‑way contract, a move that locks the 6‑foot‑2, 196‑pound blueliner into the organization through the next two seasons.
Groshev made his NHL debut on December 28 against Montreal, registering his first NHL assist and point, a milestone that signaled his readiness for the big stage.
Early NHL Impact
In the American Hockey League, he appeared in 58 games for the Syracuse Crunch last season, contributing three goals and 21 points while ranking third among Crunch defensemen in assists (18), points and a plus‑16 rating.
Across 181 career AHL games, all with the Crunch, Groshev has tallied 20 goals and 65 points, underscoring a steady offensive output from the defensive pairing.
The Lightning drafted Groshev in the third round, 85th overall, in the 2020 NHL Draft, a selection that has now paid off as the player continues to develop within the system.
General manager Julien BriseBois emphasized the value of adding a player who combines size, defensive reliability and emerging offensive contributions, noting that the contract provides flexibility for the roster.
With the new agreement in place, the Lightning aim to deepen their defensive corps as they prepare for the upcoming campaign, hoping Groshev can translate his AHL success into more NHL impact.
