Season opener ends in a narrow loss
The Lindenwood Lions opened their 2026 campaign on the road against IU Indy, only to walk away with a 1-0 defeat. A penalty kick in the 29th minute set the tone, and despite a lively start, the Lions could not find an equaliser.
Early in the first half the visitors created two clear opportunities, but both were squandered, leaving the score level at the break. The momentum shifted when a foul inside the box earned IU Indy a spot‑kick, and Jose Antonio Herrera calmly converted to put the hosts ahead.
Lindenwood outshot IU Indy 16‑10 over the course of the game, earning six corner kicks and generating a handful of on‑target efforts. Luca Bartoni tested the Jaguar goalkeeper with a free‑kick in the second half, only to see his effort deflect over the bar, while Thato Lekgetho and Maxime Legai each forced saves with their attempts.
Looking ahead
The Lions will return home on Wednesday night to face Blackburn College, with the match scheduled for 7 p.m. and streamed live on ESPN+. The team hopes to rebound from the early setback and fine‑tune the attacking patterns that generated numerous chances against IU Indy.
