The Lindenwood baseball team opened its series against Southern Indiana with an 8‑4 defeat on Thursday night, dropping the first game of what promised to be a tightly contested matchup. Despite out‑hitting the Screaming Eagles 10‑7, the Lions stranded 11 baserunners, a missed opportunity that proved costly.
Key Performances
Kam Edwards was the most aggressive hitter for Lindenwood, finishing 2‑for‑3 with a triple, three runs scored and two walks. Sam Driscoll contributed two hits and drove in two runs, while Matt Graf added a double in a 2‑for‑4 effort. The trio combined for half of the team’s total hits, but the lack of timely hitting left the offense stranded.
Defensive Slip‑ups
Southern Indiana capitalized on a series of defensive lapses. In the top of the first, Lindenwood loaded the bases and seized a 2‑0 lead when a throwing error by the Eagles allowed both runners to cross the plate. The Eagles answered in the bottom of the sixth, tying the game at 3‑3 before Parker Martin’s double to right‑center in the seventh pushed the lead to 7‑3. An additional run in the same inning stretched the margin to 8‑3, and Lindenwood could only muster a single run in the ninth, courtesy of a sacrifice fly by Jake Radosevich that brought Kam Edwards home.
Looking Ahead
The Lions will look to rebound on Friday evening at 5 p.m., when they host Southern Indiana for the second game of the series. A week later, the regular‑season finale is scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m., giving the team a final chance to fine‑tune before the conference tournament.
