A Promising Start
Lindenwood’s men’s soccer team opened its 2026 campaign in convincing fashion, defeating Chicago State 3‑0 on a crisp evening in Chicago. The Lions controlled possession from the outset, generating 18 shots with 11 on target while limiting the visitors to just two attempts, one of which tested the keeper.
The scoring unfolded in a balanced manner. Luca Bartoni struck twice in the second half, while Luke Neely and Philip Viberg Rasmussen combined for the opening goal. Neely won the ball on a turnover, slipped it to Rasmussen, who laid it off for Bartoni to finish, and later Bartoni added his second after a quick exchange with Rasmussen.
Defensively, the Lions were equally impressive, conceding only one shot on target across the entire match. Coach Kris Bertsch praised the professionalism of the performance, noting that the shutout reflected the team’s improved organization and discipline.
The early win also saw five different players register points, underscoring the depth of the squad. Bartoni and Rasmussen each contributed multiple points, while the midfield and back line combined for a clean sheet that bodes well for upcoming fixtures.
Looking ahead, the Lions will travel to face Indiana University‑Indianapolis on Monday at 2 p.m. Central Time. The matchup against IU Indy offers a new test as the team seeks to carry its momentum forward.
