Credit One Stadium, best known for concerts and tennis matches, will host an unprecedented outdoor college basketball doubleheader on September 27. The event, branded as the LinkU Invitational, will feature the University of Virginia facing Vanderbilt University at 1 p.m., followed by a clash between the College of Charleston and The Citadel at 3 p.m.
The stadium’s signature green clay surface will be converted into a standard hardwood court to meet basketball specifications, marking the first time such a transformation has been undertaken for a collegiate doubleheader. Organizers say the setup underscores the event’s innovative spirit and commitment to delivering a high‑quality playing environment.
Beyond the Games
Fans will have ample opportunities to engage with the teams before the games. On Saturday, September 26, practice sessions for all four participating squads will be open to the public, offering a rare behind‑the‑scenes look at the squads’ preparations. The following day, the historic Riviera Theater in downtown Charleston will host an exclusive Chalk Talk, where coaches and players will discuss strategy and answer questions from the audience.
The weekend will also include family‑friendly entertainment and a lively gameday atmosphere, aiming to attract a broad cross‑section of the community. This emphasis on immersive experiences comes just days after Credit One Stadium served as the venue for a World Cup watch party that drew roughly 4,000 attendees, highlighting the venue’s growing role as a hub for diverse sporting events.
