The Clear Lake Lions baseball squad endured a pair of defeats that highlighted both promise and growing pains as they prepare for the post‑season.
In their latest outing they fell 3‑0 to the Mason City Riverhawks, a Class 4A opponent, with Hudson Carney delivering the team’s only hit — a double to center field that sparked brief hope.
Riverhawks’ offense was steady, plating a run in the second, third and fifth innings, while senior pitcher Lincoln Berding limited the Lions to a single hit, walked three and struck out 18 batters.
Coach Krabbe’s Outlook
Head coach Noah Krabbe praised the squad’s effort, noting the competitive nature of the matches and expressing confidence as the club heads into the tournament bracket.
The Lions will travel to Boone on Friday, July 10, for the first round of the post‑season tournament, a venue that promises a fresh test against new adversaries.
Despite the setbacks, the roster remains focused, with players such as Ryder Ditsworth, Tanner Nelson, Connor Plagge and the rest of the lineup eager to translate early‑season lessons into playoff success.
