The Detroit Lions have emerged as one of the NFL’s most potent offenses over the last four seasons, consistently ranking near the top in both scoring and total yards.
After parting ways with offensive coordinator John Morton, the club tapped Drew Petzing to take the reins, a move many analysts view as a perfect fit for the team’s personnel.
A Strategic Shift in Detroit
Petzing’s schemes prioritize tight ends and running backs, a philosophy that has already shown promise in fantasy metrics. CBS’s Dave Richard placed him second among new offensive play‑callers for the upcoming season.
Under his system, tight ends enjoy at least a 33.1% target share each year, and receivers such as Trey McBride have seen their target volume and PPR production surge — McBride’s targets per game climbing from 6.2 to 9.9 while his points per game jumped from 10.7 to 18.9.
Sam LaPorta, who has recorded double‑digit PPR scores in 21 of the 24 games where he received six or more targets, is being viewed as a sleeper TE1 who should thrive in Petzing’s attack.
The Lions’ skill‑position group also includes Jameson Williams, Jahmyr Gibbs, Amon‑Ra St. Brown and Isaac TeSlaa, a blend of speed, power and versatility that positions the unit to keep posting big numbers in 2026. CBS analysts expect the offense to continue delivering a high volume of points next season.
