A Strategic Addition to the Longhorns
Texas Longhorns basketball has secured a commitment from Lithuanian guard Mantas Laurencikas, who will join the program for the 2026‑27 season. The 19‑year‑old arrives after a standout year with AS Monaco Basket in the French Betclic Elite, where he posted 13.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game.
Laurencikas brings a blend of European experience and international exposure, having represented Lithuania at FIBA competitions for four consecutive summers. His skill set, highlighted by playmaking and rebounding, aligns with head coach Sean Miller’s vision of a more versatile, guard‑heavy lineup.
The addition is part of a sweeping roster transformation that also includes former St. Mary’s guard Mikey Lewis, former Auburn wing Elyjah Freeman, former Tennessee forward Amari Evans, former TCU power forward David Punch and former Colorado guard Isaiah Johnson. With the new arrivals, Texas will field 13 scholarship athletes next season, a depth that propelled the class to a No. 2 ranking on 247Sports’ composite list.
Miller, who has been reshaping the roster since his arrival, emphasized the strategic fit of Laurencikas alongside existing guards such as Isaiah Johnson and the incoming freshman trio. The coach also noted the familiar chemistry between Laurencikas and fellow Lithuanian Matas Vokietaitis, a post player already on the roster, which could accelerate on‑court cohesion.
Beyond the statistics, the commitment signals Texas’s intent to compete at the highest level of collegiate basketball. The Longhorns’ fan base can expect a dynamic style of play that leverages the guard’s playmaking instincts and the program’s renewed recruiting momentum.
