The recent wave of accolades for local college athletes underscores a blend of athletic talent and scholarly commitment that is reshaping expectations for student‑players.
Athletic Excellence Recognized
Among the standouts, Marquis Ratcliff earned the title of Outstanding Senior Male Athlete for the Greyhounds, capping a career in which he led his team in scoring, rebounding and blocks.
Emma Maurer, a CSC honoree, posted a 3.63 GPA while maintaining a 3.00 ERA and topping her team in strikeouts, while Maddin Grow impressed with a .980 fielding percentage and started 44 games, showcasing versatility and consistency.
Other notable performances include Owen Kosar’s senior season in which he paced his squad in batting average, RBI’s and doubles, and Paige Bergan, who led her team in RBI’s and ranked second in runs scored, doubles and triples. Pitcher Sage Smeltz opened her freshman year with a .327 average and topped the staff in innings pitched, while reliever Bryn Clifford contributed a 5‑2 record and four saves from the bullpen.
Defensively, Luke Keitsock posted a .991 fielding percentage, and Kieran Keninitz batted .429 with three RBI’s in five games. Off the field, Mikey Myro earned a spot on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and helped his team reach the conference championship finals.
The East Stroudsburg baseball squad advanced to the PSAC semifinals and earned an NCAA berth, while Juniata’s Gracie Ruch finished 3‑2 with a 4.91 ERA. Pitchers Morgan Kelly, Kaleb Maksimik and Brayden Maksimik combined for solid outings, and Elle Walasavage started every game for the River Hawks with a .985 fielding percentage, highlighting the depth of talent across the region.
