Opening Weekend Recap
The late‑August weekend marked the first competitive outings for several girls soccer squads in the region, as Clay, Northwood and Oak Harbor each took to the field for their season openers.
Wapakoneta’s offense proved decisive, with Maddy Herbst finding the net twice and Avery Sheipline adding a single goal to secure a 3‑1 victory over Clay. In contrast, Oak Harbor’s attack was equally potent, as Avery Mikolas struck twice and Claire Blausey contributed one, while goaltender Haylee Robinson held the line for the victors.
Northwood, meanwhile, endured an 11‑0 setback at the hands of Ottawa Hills. Despite registering three shots on goal, the Polar Bears relied on Trista Towner’s 13 saves to limit the damage.
