Bluegrass State Games: Local Teams Gear Up

The countdown to the 2026 high school soccer season is already ticking, and a handful of teams from western Kentucky are packing their bags for a trip to Lexington. The Bluegrass State Games will bring together some of the region’s most promising programs, all hoping to make a splash on the state’s biggest stage.

Among the contenders are the Christian County High School squads, whose girls’ team, the Lady Tigers, and the boys’ team, the Tigers, will each compete in their respective divisions. Both programs have been training intensively, eager to test their mettle against top competition.

The Lady Tigers are slated to open play in the Girls Varsity “C” Division, facing Letcher County at 5 p.m. on Friday. Their schedule also includes a Saturday double‑header against Boone County at 10 a.m. and Louisville Eastern at 4 p.m., giving the team a chance to climb the bracket quickly.

The Tigers, meanwhile, compete in the Boys Varsity “B” Division. Their first test comes Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. against Somerset, followed by a Saturday morning clash with Campbell County at 8:30 a.m. and an afternoon showdown versus George Rogers Clark at 2:30 p.m.

University Heights Academy brings a different kind of excitement. Both the Lady Blazers and the Blazers are reigning Region 2 champions, and they enter the Games with a reputation for resilience and tactical sharpness.

The Lady Blazers will open against Estill County at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, then meet Mason County at 5:30 p.m. later that day. A Sunday morning encounter with Louisville Male at 11:30 a.m. will round out their weekend.

The Blazers’ own itinerary is packed: they take on Cooper at 10 a.m. on Saturday, face Franklin County at 4 p.m., and close out Sunday with a 10 a.m. match against Montgomery County.

Todd County Central is also sending both its girls’ and boys’ teams to Lexington, while Trigg County’s boys’ side will join the fray this weekend. The influx of teams promises a lively atmosphere, with local fans eager to cheer on their hometown heroes.

As the matches approach, coaches and players alike are emphasizing preparation and sportsmanship. With a blend of seasoned veterans and emerging talent, the upcoming games are poised to deliver memorable moments for spectators across the Commonwealth.
