Statewide Recognition

The Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association recently unveiled its all‑state selections, and four local seniors earned spots on the prestigious lists. Their names appeared on the Prep Baseball Report All‑State teams, underscoring a season that combined individual excellence with team success.

Tony Eberlin, who will continue his career at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, closed his high school tenure with a 9‑0 record, a 1.72 ERA and 62 strikeouts in 61 innings. He capped his prep career with 17 victories and announced his commitment to stay in the area for college.

Offensive Highlights

Omar Avalos batted .505 as a junior outfielder, tying for the team lead with 35 stolen bases and scoring 59 runs. Isaac Wendler set a program record with eight home runs, finished with a .444 average and added 48 RBIs, while also anchoring the Griffins' lineup with solid defensive play.

All four athletes were recognized on the Prep Baseball Report All‑State teams, with Baugh and Wendler earning second‑team honors and Eberlin landing on the third team. Avalos joined them on the second team, reflecting the depth of talent emerging from the region.
