A group of twenty‑five youngsters from the Steamboat Soccer Club has taken on an ambitious mission: to raise the money and community support needed to construct new artificial‑turf fields at Heritage Park.
Known as the Lockhart Fields Youth Council, the participants have organized fundraisers, addressed local gatherings, and produced a grant‑application video that showcases their vision for two full‑size pitches ready for play by September.
Grassroots Fundraising Gains Momentum
One of the council’s three committees has already secured $43,387 through a series of community events, and two local families have pledged a $50,000 matching contribution. The broader “Together We Turf” campaign has now attracted $2.5 million toward a $5.3 million target, illustrating the breadth of local enthusiasm.
Organizers say that if an additional $1 million can be raised, construction could break ground as early as this summer, accelerating the timeline for field availability before the fall season.
A Community‑Driven Initiative
Beyond the numbers, the project reflects a deeper commitment to providing safe, high‑quality playing surfaces for youth sports in the region. By involving the kids directly in storytelling, fundraising, and grant writing, the council ensures that the next generation is invested in the park’s future.
The Steamboat Soccer Club, which oversees the initiative, has partnered with local nonprofits and schools to amplify outreach, and the effort has already earned recognition at the IMPACT100 nonprofit fair.
