A Milestone Camp in Clinton County
From August 3 through August 7, the West Branch Soccer Club celebrated its 45th anniversary by hosting its longest‑running youth soccer camp in Clinton County. The event welcomed 130 campers, making it the county’s premier summer sports gathering.
Head coaches Patrick Long and Jesse Urquhart, who lead the men’s and women’s soccer programs at Lock Haven University, directed the camp. Their staff consisted entirely of Lock Haven student‑athletes, providing campers with role models who balance academics and athletics.
Local sponsors and the club’s board ensured that participation remained affordable for families, covering coaching, a soccer ball, and a commemorative T‑shirt for each camper. Their contributions kept the camp accessible while reinforcing the community’s commitment to youth development.
The camp embraced a World Cup‑themed vibe, heightening excitement as the global tournament approached. A highlight was the Viking Row performance, featuring a drum donated by CU‑Lock Haven Band Director James Eldreth, which added a memorable cultural twist to the closing ceremony.
Beyond skill drills, the organizers emphasized teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth. By integrating community support with professional coaching, the camp not only refined technical abilities but also fostered a lasting love for the sport among the participants.
