Lockland High School, part of the Lockland Local School District, has called off its football program for the upcoming fall season.
A recent meeting with the limited group of athletes revealed that most of the roughly dozen students present were not eager to continue, prompting the administration to reconsider the viability of the team.
Mobility Act Opens Transfer Options
Under Ohio’s Student Athlete Mobility Act, those who wish to keep playing can seek transfers to nearby districts such as Reading, Norwood or Finneytown, provided they navigate a petition process that requires approval from both the sending and receiving superintendents and clearance from the Ohio High School Athletic Association.
The law bars mid‑season moves, meaning any transfer must be initiated immediately, and athletes must meet academic and eligibility standards before they can join a new program.
While the district acknowledged that the cancellation was a disappointment for those who had hoped to take the field, officials said they remain committed to exploring alternative athletic or extracurricular opportunities for the affected students.
