Logan County Cougar Basketball Camp Brings Youth Together in Russellville

High school coaches and players guide elementary and middle school athletes through fundamentals and teamwork

Young athletes from first through eighth grade gathered in Russellville this week for the Logan County Cougar Basketball Camp, a two‑day clinic that blends skill development with community spirit. The camp, held on the campus of Logan County High School, attracted dozens of eager participants ready to learn the fundamentals of the game.

A Summer Tradition in Russellville

Logan County High School coaches and current players led sessions that covered dribbling, shooting, passing, defense and rebounding, turning basic drills into confidence‑building experiences. Each drill was designed to reinforce proper technique while fostering a love for teamwork.

John Frick, head basketball coach at Logan County High School, said the camp gives younger athletes a chance to look up to the players who already wear the Cougar jersey. "It’s about more than just basketball," Frick explained. "We want these kids to see what it means to be part of a program and to have role models they can relate to."

Current players serve as both instructors and mentors, offering a glimpse of the high school experience while sharing the lessons they’ve learned on the court. Their presence creates a bridge between the school’s varsity program and the next generation of Cougars, encouraging participants to envision a future in the program.

The camp runs through Wednesday, with sessions from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and will wrap up on Thursday afternoon, giving families a concise but intensive opportunity to engage. Organizers hope the experience will not only sharpen skills but also strengthen the bond between the high school and the community it serves.
