Logano Claims Richmond Victory as Championship Race Heats Up

A dramatic Richmond NASCAR Cup race reshaped the playoff picture, with Hendrick Motorsports shining and several drivers facing setbacks.

Joey Logano seized the checkered flag at Richmond, a performance that vaulted him from 20th on the grid to ninth in the championship standings and nudged his playoff position up to fifth before the reset.

The victory comes at a pivotal moment for Logano, who is chasing a fourth title under the Chase format and has previously faced criticism for his playoff successes.

Austin Cindric delivered his strongest run of the season, finishing third and collecting 48 points that lifted him to 15th overall, now 57 points clear of the cut‑line.

Kyle Larson added another highlight by winning the rain‑delayed Knoxville Nationals in Iowa, underscoring his continued dominance in the series.

Hendrick Motorsports’ collective surge

Hendrick Motorsports enjoyed a rare collective triumph, with all four of its drivers — Chase Elliott, Kyle Larson, William Byron and Alex Bowman — finishing inside the top ten, Elliott fifth, Larson sixth, Byron ninth and Bowman tenth.

The weekend was not without setbacks, however. Carson Hocevar slipped from fifth to 11th in the standings after a DNF in Richmond, losing 25 bonus points and dropping two spots in the points table.

Austin Dillon, who had previously enjoyed success at Richmond, could not replicate that magic, finishing 19th and failing to stay inside the top ten despite a brief flirtation with the leading group.

Ryan Preece’s hopes for a strong finish evaporated as he crossed the line 16th, scoring no stage points and falling 50 points behind Shane van Gisbergen with two races left before the Chase.

Despite the occasional DNF, the Richmond event featured minimal attrition, underscoring the competitive nature of the field and setting the stage for the final push toward the playoffs.
