The third annual Rising Stars Bowl gathered the most promising junior football players from Long Island and New York City on the campus of Long Island University, drawing more than 1,800 spectators and a contingent of 27 college coaches eager to scout the next generation of talent.
Team Long Island struck first, capitalizing on a 66‑yard strike from quarterback Mikey Russo to Jovan Greenhill on the opening drive. The early lead faded quickly as Team NYC answered with a 14‑7 advantage before the half‑time break.
Key Moments on the Field
Greenhill, representing North Babylon, led the Long Island offense with 154 receiving yards and a touchdown, but the team could not sustain the momentum. Christian Jean‑Francois of Kellenberg earned offensive lineman honors, while Jason Clark of Westbury was named defensive lineman of the game.
Justin DePietro from Carey added a defensive player award after a crucial sack, and AJ Magaraci of South Side contributed a 9‑yard rushing touchdown for Long Island.
The game also featured a cheerleading competition, a marching band and a DJ, underscoring the event's community‑wide appeal beyond the gridiron.
Standout Performances
Brody Riedel of Long Beach broke loose for a 39‑yard run in the fourth quarter, but a turnover on downs with just over a minute remaining allowed Team NYC to seal a 21‑13 victory. Isaiah Smith of Christ the King capped the night with a 6‑yard touchdown that pushed NYC to an eight‑point lead.
Despite the loss, the series record now stands at 2‑1 in favor of New York City, a modest edge that hints at a growing rivalry as recruiting circles take note of the emerging talent on both sides.
