Longhorns Capture Third Straight Learfield Directors’ Cup

Texas edges out Stanford for top athletic department honors

The University of Texas Longhorns have once again secured the Learfield Directors’ Cup, marking the third straight year at the top of the national athletic rankings.

How the Cup is Calculated

The Directors’ Cup awards points based on performance across NCAA championships in a wide range of sports, from baseball and basketball to soccer, volleyball and beyond. Texas earned 1322 points, edging out Stanford’s 1263.5 to claim the crown.

Championships in softball, rowing and men’s swimming and diving helped drive the total, while the program also posted a runner‑up finish in men’s tennis and third‑place results in women’s swimming and diving, women’s basketball and beach volleyball.

A Program Built on Depth

The Longhorns added five more top‑five finishes, including fifth places in women’s volleyball, women’s golf, men’s golf and baseball, and cracked the top ten in men’s basketball and women’s tennis. Football finished the season ranked No. 13 in the final Coaches Poll.

Overall, 18 of Texas’ 21 sponsored sports competed in NCAA championship events, underscoring the program’s breadth as well as its brilliance. The latest victory represents the eighth consecutive top‑five finish in the Directors’ Cup, a streak that reflects sustained excellence across the department.
