Longhorns Land Elite Cornerback in 2028 Recruiting Class
The University of Texas announced a scholarship offer for Jordan Hicks, a four‑star cornerback out of Mission Viejo High in California. The announcement comes as the Longhorns continue to bolster their defensive backfield for the 2028 cycle, a group that already includes several highly rated prospects.
Hicks, ranked 17th among cornerbacks nationwide by 247Sports, also holds the sixth spot among California’s top players and sits at 142nd in the overall national composite. In his sophomore season he logged 62 tackles, 1.5 for a loss, five pass breakups and five interceptions, numbers that have attracted attention from a host of powerhouse programs.
The offer adds to a growing list of suitors that includes Arizona, Arizona State, Arkansas, BYU, California, Florida, Georgia, Miami and Michigan. Each of those schools has already extended an invitation, underscoring the competitive nature of the recruitment.
Texas is not stopping with Hicks. The program is also courting other four‑star talents such as Neimann Lawrence, Ian Thomas, Brysen Wright, Tytan McNeal and Austin Attalah, all of whom are expected to shape the defensive landscape of the next recruiting class.
A Defensive Overhaul in the Making
Coaches view the influx of cornerback talent as a cornerstone for a revamped secondary that has struggled in recent seasons. By securing commitments from multiple high‑ranked prospects, the Longhorns aim to create depth and versatility that can translate into more turnovers and tighter coverage on the field.
The recruiting push also reflects a broader strategy to attract top talent across the board, ensuring that the program remains a contender in the SEC and national rankings. As the 2028 class takes shape, the Longhorns’ defensive recruiting narrative is poised to become a focal point of their overall recruiting identity.
