Texas has secured its first verbal commitment for the 2028 recruiting cycle, landing quarterback Neimann Lawrence, a prospect who chose the Longhorns over a crowded field of suitors.
A Rising Edge Talent
Among the prospects drawing attention is four‑star edge rusher Luke Nabors, a Georgia native who has risen to No. 264 in the national composite rankings and sits at No. 24 among edge players. At Buford High School he logged 12 tackles, a tackle for loss, a sack and two quarterback hurries in just eight games as a sophomore, showcasing a blend of size, speed and pass‑rush productivity that has made him a coveted target.
Nabors’ recruitment board currently includes Miami, Georgia, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Indiana, Texas Tech, South Carolina and Georgia Tech, but Texas has positioned itself among the top ten schools for his signature. The Longhorns extended an offer to him back in January, and they now hope to bring him to Austin for an official visit, a move that could solidify their foothold in the state’s talent pipeline.
The commitment of Lawrence signals a strategic shift for the program as it looks to build a balanced class that can compete nationally, while Nabors’ potential visit underscores the coaching staff’s aggressive pursuit of elite defensive talent. With the recruiting landscape still fluid, the next few months will be pivotal in determining how these early pledges shape Texas’ outlook for the 2028 season.
