Hendersonville High School is mourning the loss of Anthony David Lake, a longtime football coach and alumnus who spent more than two decades shaping the lives of countless students both on the field and in the classroom. Lake, who quarterbacked the school's first team to reach the TSSAA playoffs in 1988, was remembered as a mentor, colleague, and friend by staff and former players alike.
A Legacy of Leadership
During his tenure, Lake served as the Commandos' offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, guiding the program through a period of growth and achievement. His dedication extended beyond football; he also taught several classes and was known for his hands‑on approach with every student who entered his orbit.
Before returning to Hendersonville as a coach, Lake honed his athletic talents at Birmingham‑Southern College, where he continued his football career after a standout high school stint. The college community expressed its condolences, noting the lasting impact of his contributions to the sport.
Visitation and Celebration of Life
A visitation for Lake will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 2, at Hendersonville Memory Gardens, Funeral Home & Cremation Center. Following the visitation, a Celebration of Life will commence at 3 p.m., providing an opportunity for friends, family, and former teammates to share stories and reflect on his influence.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Hendersonville High School Quarterback Club or the HHS Soccer Foundation, organizations that embody the spirit of community and youth development that Lake championed throughout his career.
