Dale Hamlin, a beloved coach and volunteer with South Lexington Youth Baseball, died on August 1 after a distinguished career that spanned nearly three decades of service to the league and the broader community.
Known to many simply as Dale, he held roles that included coach, vice president and longtime mentor, guiding generations of young players while always emphasizing effort, integrity and the spirit of teamwork.
A mentor beyond the diamond
Mary‑Anne Gillespie, the league’s president, recalled seeing Dale regularly at Shillito Park, often navigating the fields from a golf cart, ready to assist players, parents and volunteers with the same steady presence.
Aaron Caudill, vice president of operations for the organization, praised Dale’s unwavering commitment to community service, noting that his dedication set an inspiring example for everyone involved.
Legacy in action
As the South Lexington Youth Baseball teams gear up for the Cal Ripken World Series, they carry forward Dale’s motto — “Do it for Dale” — using the phrase to remind themselves to give their utmost effort and represent the league with pride.
A visitation will be held on August 22 at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home on Harrodsburg Road, followed by a reception at the Shillito Park baseball fields where friends and family can share memories and celebrate his life.
