Longtime Tyrone Baseball Coach Kevin Soellner Resigns After 11 Seasons

After guiding the Golden Eagles to their first state championship and a 119‑95 record, Soellner steps down, opening a new chapter for the program.

Kevin Soellner, who has guided the Tyrone Golden Eagles baseball program for more than a decade, announced his resignation this week, bringing to a close an era that reshaped the team’s fortunes.

A Legacy of Triumphs

During his tenure he compiled a 119‑95 record, surpassing his personal goal of 100 wins, and led the squad to its first PIAA state championship in 2021 with a 5‑0 victory over Oley Valley in the Class 3A title game.

The Golden Eagles also captured two Curve Classic tournament titles and secured the District 6 Class 3A championship in 2023, underscoring the program’s rise under his guidance.

Soellner’s success was built on a foundation of strong rivalries, most notably with Central High School, whose own state championships and mutual respect with Tyrone’s staff highlighted the competitive spirit of the region.

Beyond the scoreboard, his summer programs, including participation in the George B. Kelley Federation, gave players exposure to elite competition and helped forge bonds that extended beyond high school.

The coach’s departure coincides with the retirement of fellow legend John Franco, who had previously led Tyrone to a PIAA football championship in 1999, signaling a broader transition for the school’s two team sports that have recently claimed state titles.

Tyrone will now begin the search for a new head coach, a process that aims to preserve the stability and culture Soellner cultivated while embracing fresh ideas for the upcoming school year.
