Longwood University’s baseball program celebrated a double honor as junior Brogan Jones and redshirt‑sophomore Joe Gomez earned spots on the 2026 Academic All‑District® NCAA Division I Team.
Honoring Dual Excellence
The distinction reflects the team’s remarkable turnaround, a season that produced 34 victories — matching the school’s Division I best — and secured the program’s first appearance in the Big South Championship game.
Jones, a business administration major, batted .270 over 56 games and delivered a clutch performance, driving in three runs — including the go‑ahead run in the 11th inning — during a pivotal tournament contest.
Gomez, also pursuing a business administration degree, posted a 3.63 earned‑run average across 18 outings and set a career best with 3.2 scoreless innings in the opening game of the championship series.
Their simultaneous academic and athletic achievements underscore a broader upward trajectory, a 20‑win improvement from the previous year that echoes the 1991 team’s historic climb to the Division II World Series.
The recognition was coordinated by College Sports Communicators, the organization that administers the Academic All‑District® program, in partnership with Longwood University.
