The $24,000 makeover added a durable concrete overlay, new poles, backboards and hoops, two sleek bleachers and an ADA‑compliant walkway that now welcomes players of all abilities.
Funding for the project came from a blend of sources: a $15,000 grant from the Lions Clubs International Foundation, municipal support, and contributions raised at a February Hispanic dinner that drew strong sponsor backing.
Celebrating the collaboration
Mayor Jack Bradley praised the partnership between the city, the Lions Club and Lions Clubs International Foundation, noting that the joint effort exemplifies how local government and volunteer groups can deliver tangible results.
Mitchell J. Fallis, the club’s marketing chairman, served as master of ceremonies, guiding the program that opened with an invocation, the singing of “God Bless America,” and the Pledge of Allegiance.
After the ribbon was cut, the mayor took the first shot on the newly polished court, eliciting cheers from the crowd of children who received yellow gift bags filled with blue water bottles and basketballs.
