The 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles will feature two separate soccer tournaments, one for men and one for women, each with its own set of medals.
The men's competition will consist of twelve teams, while the women's tournament expands to sixteen participants, reflecting the growing prominence of the women's game.
Where the games will be played
Matches are scheduled to run from July 10 through July 29, with group‑stage fixtures leading into quarterfinals, semifinals and the championship matches.
Six American cities have been selected to host the soccer events: New York City, Columbus, Ohio, Nashville, Tennessee, St. Louis, Missouri, San Jose, California, and San Diego, California. Each venue will accommodate a portion of the group stage and knockout rounds, spreading the excitement across the country.
The road to the finals
The women's gold‑medal match is set for July 29, providing a marquee finish to the tournament. The men's final will follow shortly thereafter, crowning the champion of a twelve‑team field.
All of the decisive games will culminate at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California. The historic venue, which previously hosted Olympic football in 1932 and 1984, will once again serve as the stage for the sport’s most prestigious moments.
Organizers have emphasized that the expanded format and widespread locations aim to broaden participation and viewership, while also leveraging iconic American stadiums to create a festive atmosphere for fans across North America.
