A Season of Surprises
The Los Angeles Times has released its final top 25 high school baseball rankings for the Southland in 2026, a snapshot of the teams that defined the season.
At the pinnacle, St. John Bosco sits at No. 1 after securing the SS Division 1 championship, capping a campaign that combined dominant pitching with a potent offense.
Norco follows in the runner‑up spot, having pushed the Bosco Braves to the brink in the title game before falling short.
Harvard‑Westlake and Sherman Oaks Notre Dame both broke into the top four, each reaching the SS Division 1 semifinals and showcasing the depth of talent in the league.
Corona, ranked fifth, advanced to the SS Division 1 quarterfinals, while Huntington Beach climbed to sixth after capturing the Division I regional championship.
The next handful of spots feature a mix of programs that reached the quarterfinals or deeper, including La Mirada, Orange Lutheran, Cypress, Sierra Canyon, Ayala, and Corona Santiago.
Further down the list, teams such as Etwanda, Oaks Christian, and Temecula Valley earned top‑15 placements after strong showings in the SS Division 2 bracket.
Mid‑tier rankings also recognize champions of lower divisions, with Ganesha taking the SS Division 2 crown and Newport Harbor securing a regional title in Division 2.
The season’s narrative is underscored by the work of Eric Sondheimer, the prep sports columnist for the Los Angeles Times, who has earned seven accolades from the California Prep Sportswriters Association for his coverage.
These rankings not only celebrate on‑field success but also highlight the growing competitiveness of high school baseball across Southern California.
