Statewide tryouts and digital innovation set the stage for the league's debut

Louisiana Venom Gear Up for Inaugural Season

The Louisiana Venom are poised to enter the American Professional Football League (APFL) as one of four founding franchises, joining teams from South Carolina, New York and Virginia. The franchise’s mission is to give overlooked college graduates a second chance to pursue a professional football career.

Head coach Ananias Johnson Jr. says the league will focus on players who have exhausted their college eligibility, tapping into the 98.4% of college athletes who never make an NFL roster. “Our goal is to provide a platform where talent can shine, regardless of where it was discovered,” Johnson explained.

General manager Percy Williams Jr. added that the Venom will hold tryouts across Louisiana in June, targeting athletes 21 and older from institutions such as Tulane, LSU, Grambling, Southern, Nicholls, McNeese and UL. Cities including Shreveport, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Lafayette and smaller towns like New Iberia and Opelousas will host regional camps.

Beyond the field, the league is betting on digital innovation to engage fans. Multiple camera angles, interactive statistics and real‑time voting features will be built into the viewing experience, aiming to create a community‑driven product that reflects the state’s pride.

The Venom’s branding emphasizes statewide unity, with merchandise and outreach programs designed to celebrate Louisiana’s diverse culture. Fans can expect a schedule that blends home games in major venues with community events that spotlight local high schools and youth programs.

With the inaugural 2027 season on the horizon, the organization hopes to prove that professional football can thrive outside the traditional NFL ecosystem, offering a sustainable pathway for players and a fresh entertainment option for supporters.
