Louisiana’s Elite High School Baseball Squad Heads to National Championship in Omaha

Coach Jeff Curtis leads an 18‑player team from across the state to compete against top talent from 18 other states

A Louisiana Squad Heads to the Heartland

Coach Jeff Curtis of John Curtis Christian School has assembled a roster of 18 seniors who will represent Louisiana at the High School Baseball National Championship in Omaha, Nebraska. The team will depart on Tuesday, with its first pool‑play game scheduled for Wednesday.

Curtis selected the players through a combination of coach recommendations and performances in prior showcase events, drawing talent from John Curtis, Jesuit, Archbishop Rummel, Holy Cross, Newman, St. Charles Catholic, Riverside Academy, Destrehan, Tioga, Silliman Institute, Jewel Sumner, Glenmora, Acadiana Renaissance Charter Academy and Parkway High School.

The championship, now in its third year, follows a format that pits the Louisiana contingent against the best seniors from 18 other states. Pool play begins on Wednesday, and the semifinals and final are set for Sunday, giving the team only a few days to adjust to the Nebraska venue.

Curtis says the competition will feature prospects committed to SEC schools, West Coast programs and other Division I institutions, but he remains confident that his squad can hold its own. “We’re going to compete at a high level and make Louisiana proud,” he said.

A Young but Experienced Roster

Among the 18 players, junior Paul Dufrene is the only underclassman, while the rest are seniors. This mix of seasoned leaders and fresh talent gives the team a balanced dynamic as they prepare for the national stage.

Fans and alumni from across Louisiana are expected to travel to Omaha to support the team, adding a home‑field vibe to the event. The championship will be streamed online, allowing those unable to attend to follow the action.

As the team boards their flight, excitement is palpable. With a schedule that includes intense pool play followed by knockout matches, the Louisiana squad is poised to make a deep run and showcase the state’s baseball pedigree on a national stage.
