A Recruiting Battle for 2027 Elite Prospects
The Louisville Cardinals are making a concerted push for three of the most coveted five‑star prospects in the 2027 class, hoping to reshape the program’s future.
Analyst Jamie Shaw of On3 Sports says the odds are stacked against the Cardinals, estimating a 25 percent chance that Reese Alston will choose Louisville while North Carolina appears to be the front‑runner for point guard CJ Rosser.
Pat Kelsey, the Cardinals’ head coach, has been hands‑on in the recruitment, attending Alston’s games and arranging visits for other top recruits such as four‑star Darius Wabbington, who is slated to arrive on campus in the fall.
Lewis Uvwo, a dominant center ranked No. 1 among his position and No. 7 overall, boasts more than 30 scholarship offers, including from Kansas, Kentucky and Texas, underscoring the intensity of the competition.
The early momentum in the ACC favors Duke and North Carolina, and Louisville’s ability to break through will depend on how it can leverage its recent visits and the personal connections forged by its staff.
If Louisville can secure even one of these elite players, it would signal a major shift in the balance of power within the conference and could set the tone for the next recruiting cycle.
