Now a community‑wide poll, championed by White Plains Hospital, is inviting fans to crown the area’s greatest all‑time girls soccer player, a tribute that spotlights ten athletes whose careers have left an indelible mark on the sport.
Among the early pioneers, Greer Barnes led Rye to an undefeated season in 2004 before earning a professional contract with the Los Angeles Sol in 2009, setting a benchmark for future generations.
Kelly Brady followed a similar trajectory, guiding North Rockland to a Section 1 title in 2019 and later competing in England’s Women’s Super League with Crystal Palace, showcasing the valley’s ability to produce top‑flight talent.
Gabby Chan made history as the first Section 1 girls player to be honored as an All‑American three times, a testament to her consistent excellence on the national stage.
Sam Coffey, a current member of the U.S. Women’s National Team, capped her rise with an Olympic gold medal in 2024, cementing her status among the valley’s most celebrated exports.
Melina Couzis was the engine behind Somers’ 2014 state championship run, her midfield mastery dictating the tempo for a team that remains a model of balanced play.
Defender Teigan Cunnane anchored Albertus Magnus’ back line, scoring the decisive goals in both the 2025 state semifinal and final, a performance that helped the program capture its most recent championship.
