LSU’s baseball squad is shaping up for a pivotal 2026 campaign as head coach Jay Johnson looks to patch a thinning outfield with fresh talent from the transfer portal.
A Fresh Wave of Talent
Among the newest arrivals is Angel Laya, a freshman All‑American outfielder who transferred from the Oregon Ducks. Laya burst onto the scene with a .296 batting average and 14 home runs during his debut season, bringing a blend of power and poise to the lineup.
Johnson also secured the services of Bino Watters, who comes over from Notre Dame, and Jason Wachs, a recent addition from Tulane. Both players are expected to contribute immediately, adding depth and versatility to the roster.
The coaching staff is also counting on William Patrick to return in 2027, providing a potential anchor for the outfield after the program loses Chris Stanfield, Derek Curiel and Jake Brown to graduation or the professional ranks.
With a mix of proven collegiate experience and promising youth, LSU hopes to maintain its competitive edge in the SEC and make a deep run in the NCAA tournament.
