LSU’s baseball program is gearing up for the 2027 season with a clear focus on bolstering its outfield, a need that has become pressing after the expected departures of key seniors.
A Strategic Addition for the Tigers
Head coach Jay Johnson announced the commitment of Angel Laya, a highly touted transfer from Oregon, who will join the roster next year after a standout 2026 campaign.
Laya arrives as the No. 9 prospect in the transfer portal, bringing a blend of power and contact that should help fill the void left by Derek Curiel and Chris Stanfield.
In his recent season with the Ducks, Laya posted a .296 batting average, a .538 slugging percentage and a .934 OPS, translating to 66 hits, 47 RBIs and 14 home runs across 66 games.
The move also marks the second portal acquisition for Johnson this week, underscoring the Tigers’ aggressive approach to building depth through the transfer market.
Beyond Laya, LSU has also secured outfielders Jason Wachs and Bino Watters, adding further versatility and experience to the squad.
