A Season of Scholarship
LSU's baseball program celebrated a milestone this week as the 2026 squad was presented with the Team Academic Excellence Award by the American Baseball Coaches Association.
The accolade, which highlights programs that post a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0, recognized the Tigers for achieving a 3.02 team average during the 2025‑26 academic year.
Individually, 22 players maintained a GPA of 3.0 or higher, while eight posted a 3.5 or better, underscoring the depth of scholarship within the roster.
Among those standouts, junior Steven Milam, a sport administration major from Las Cruces, New Mexico, earned a 3.57 GPA and was selected for the 2026 College Sports Communicators Academic All‑District Team. He also garnered Academic All‑District and Academic All‑America honors in 2025. Right‑hander William Schmidt, a sport administration major from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, posted a 3.75 GPA and joined Milam on the All‑District squad.
The Tigers' academic achievements extended to the conference level, with eleven players earning spots on the 2026 Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll and twelve more making the 2026 First‑Year SEC Academic Honor Roll.
Coach Andy Cannizaro praised the team's commitment, noting that the classroom success reflects the program's broader culture of excellence. The recognition comes as LSU continues to blend competitive athletics with a strong academic mission.
