LSU’s baseball program is set to travel to Las Vegas in March 2027 for a three‑day showcase that will pit the Tigers against some of the nation’s most competitive college programs.
A Strategic March Schedule
During the Live Like Lou Las Vegas College Baseball Classic, LSU will meet Iowa, Arizona State and Oregon State over the course of March 5‑7, with the action taking place at the modern Las Vegas Ballpark, home of the Las Vegas Aviators.
The Tigers will also add a road test against UNLV on Monday, March 8 at Earl E. Wilson Baseball Stadium, further rounding out a demanding early‑season slate.
Coach Jay Johnson has emphasized that these neutral‑site events serve a dual purpose: they give the team high‑level competition and help the squad build the kind of résumé that the NCAA selection committee looks for when seeding the tournament.
LSU’s recent track record in similar settings bolsters the optimism. The program captured a national championship after winning the 2023 Baton Rouge Regional, and it has a history of thriving in neutral‑site tournaments, including a memorable victory over Iowa in the 2023 Round Rock Classic.
Key contributors such as pitcher William Schmidt and utility player Deven Sheerin are expected to play pivotal roles, bringing experience and depth that could prove decisive against strong opponents like Arizona State and Oregon State, both of which reached the 2026 regional round.
The upcoming schedule also promises a boost to LSU’s strength‑of‑schedule metrics, with the Tigers facing teams ranked 20th, 42nd and 69th in the final RPI, a factor that could improve their seeding and overall postseason outlook.
