LSU football has secured a verbal commitment from four-star wide receiver Cade Cooper, a move that bolsters the Tigers’ 2027 recruiting class just weeks after a flurry of pledges.
The Pennsylvania prospect, who stars at Malvern Prep, announced his choice on Tuesday, citing the program’s trajectory and the chance to play in the SEC as decisive factors.
Cooper, ranked No. 37 among wide receivers nationwide and positioned inside the top 300 players in the country, had been courted by several powerhouse programs, including Auburn, Penn State, Notre Dame and Ole Miss.
A Class Taking Shape
His pledge brings the total number of verbal commitments to eight for LSU’s 2027 class, a group that already features five-star tight end Ahmad Hudson and four-star quarterback Peyton Houston.
The Tigers have also added three other wide-receiver prospects — Ah’Mari Stevens and Braylon Calais among them — creating a deep receiving corps that could rank among the nation’s best.
Beyond the pass-catchers, LSU has bolstered its defensive line with edge rushers such as KJ Green and secured running back Brennen Lacey, while cornerback Markez Davis adds depth to the secondary.
Coach Brian Kelly’s staff has leveraged early momentum to flip recruits who once seemed headed elsewhere, a strategy that paid immediate dividends with Cooper’s announcement coming just one day after the commitment of edge rusher KJ Green.
The rapid accumulation of high-profile pledges signals LSU’s intent to compete aggressively for the elite talent that traditionally gravitates toward the SEC’s traditional powerhouses.
