LSU’s basketball program has added a new piece to its roster as guard Divine Ugochukwu officially joined the Tigers ahead of the 2026‑27 season.
The former Michigan State and Miami player arrived on campus this summer, immersing himself in the team’s playbook and conditioning regimen as he prepares for his first year in Baton Rouge.
Ugochukwu’s college career includes stints at both Michigan State and the University of Miami, where he posted modest but steady numbers. At Michigan State he averaged 5.1 points per game and hit a season‑high 23 points against Penn State, while his shooting efficiency sat at 50.6 percent overall, including a 44 percent clip from beyond the arc.
His time at Miami saw him contribute 5.3 points per game along with 1.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists, numbers that reflect a role as a reliable floor‑spacer.
Coach Wade’s Praise
Coach Will Wade highlighted the guard’s experience and shooting ability, noting that Ugochukwu’s 44 percent three‑point shooting will stretch defenses and open driving lanes for the Tigers.
Beyond the stats, Ugochukwu brings a winning pedigree from his high school days at Clements High School in Sugar Land, Texas. There he led his team to a 32‑1 record in the 2023‑24 season and earned finalist honors for the Guy V. Lewis Award, given to the top boys’ basketball player in the Houston area.
Recruited as a three‑star prospect, he compiled 17.1 points, 5.7 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 1.8 steals over four varsity seasons, underscoring his all‑around impact.
The addition of Ugochukwu aligns with LSU’s strategy to blend veteran savvy with fresh talent, a mix that could prove pivotal as the program looks to climb the SEC rankings.
