The LSU-Shreveport Pilots entered the NAIA Regional Championship with a season record that spoke of dominance, finishing the year at 43-14. Their final test, however, would prove to be a steep climb.
Two Games, One Dream
In the opening game, the Pilots edged past Oklahoma Wesleyan, with Quatterion Walton delivering the decisive run in the 11th inning to secure a 6-5 victory. The win was chronicled by reporter Brad Neffendorf, who noted the tension that built as the game stretched into extra innings.
Game Two unfolded differently. MidAmerica Christian surged to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, a cushion that seemed insurmountable. The Pilots answered in the second inning, taking a 4-3 edge after Walton’s triple sparked a rally, but the lead slipped away as the opposition tightened its grip.
Despite the rally, the Pilots could not maintain the advantage, and the final out sealed their elimination. The loss marked the end of a season that had placed LSU-Shreveport among the nation’s most successful small-college programs.
Coach Spencer Sullivan reflected on the campaign’s highs and lows, while teammate Carlos Vega praised the effort of the squad, noting that the experience will shape the next generation of players.
