Preseason Practice Highlights
LSU’s preseason camp hit an early snag on August 8 when sophomore offensive tackle Weston Davis failed to take the field, marking the first time this season the projected starter was absent from practice.
Davis, who battled through a challenging freshman campaign, was slated to reclaim his starting spot in the Tigers’ line, but his absence opened the door for transfer William Satterwhite II to assume the first‑team reps.
The shift was not without context; Ole Miss transfer Devin Harper and Baylor import Sean Thompkins Jr. were limited to backup drills, underscoring the depth concerns at the position.
Quarterback Room Shows Promise
Meanwhile, the quarterback room delivered a flawless display, with no red‑zone incompletions from Sam Leavitt, Husan Longstreet or Landen Clark, suggesting that the passing attack may be ready to click early.
Junior safety Malachi Thomas added a highlight with a timely interception on a high crossing route, while wide receiver Trey'Dez Green returned to the field in a non‑contact jersey, showing no visible signs of injury.
Defensive Backs Regain Full Contact
Cornerback Michael Turner Jr. also made a full‑contact return after beginning the session in a restricted jersey, a positive sign for a secondary already thin at the position.
With the team set to reconvene on Monday following Sunday’s break, all eyes will be on DJ Pickett’s progression, as limited depth at cornerback makes his development a critical factor for the 2024 season.
