LSU Women's Basketball Secures Commitment from Russian Center Anna Minaeva
LSU’s women’s basketball program has secured a new commitment that underscores its expanding global reach. Anna Minaeva, a 6‑foot‑5 center from Russia, will join the Tigers for the 2026‑27 campaign, the university confirmed on Thursday.
Minaeva arrives after a standout season with MBA Moscow, where she posted 11.2 points and 9.6 rebounds per game across the Russian Premier League and Superleague. Her performance highlighted a blend of agility in the post and a wingspan that makes her a formidable presence on both ends of the floor.
A Player With Proven International Experience
Coach Kim Mulkey said the player adds a dimension the program hasn't had recently and noted her ability to protect the rim and rebound aggressively.
The signing had been delayed by a complex visa process, but officials confirmed that the paperwork is now in place, clearing the way for Minaeva to enroll and begin preseason training in August.
Mulkey's Vision for the Post
Minaeva will become the sixth international student‑athlete on LSU’s roster, joining fellow overseas players such as Kate Koval. Their presence reflects the program’s strategy of recruiting talent beyond domestic borders.
The addition is expected to bolster LSU’s interior defense and provide depth at the center position, complementing the existing frontcourt options. Analysts predict that the team’s defensive rating could improve markedly next season.
