A Slow Start Turns Into a Lesson
Lubbock Christian University opened its 2026 campaign with a 2–1 defeat at the hands of Fort Lewis College on August 27, a result that left the Chaparrals with a 1–4–1 record against the Saints.
Fort Lewis asserted early dominance, and Simão Agostinho broke the deadlock in the 29th minute to put the visitors ahead.
Lucas Carli, whose last competitive appearance dated back to October 28, 2023, returned to the lineup and pulled one back in the 85th minute, the goal set up by Alex Lachevre.
Despite outshot the opposition 11–9, the Chaparrals were unable to find an equalizer, with Milo Paci making two saves against nine shots from Fort Lewis.
Carlos Kramer Silva was the only Lubbock Christian player to complete the full 90 minutes, while Oliver Robinson led the team with three attempts on goal and Augusto Militao registered the most shots on target with two.
Jack Brassey entered the game in the second half, and senior midfielder Lucas Martin tried a long‑range effort that missed the target, while Junior Lopez made a crucial defensive tackle in the closing minutes.
The loss also extended a historical trend, as the Chaparrals have won only once in six meetings with Fort Lewis, the most recent victory coming in 2023 in Durango, Colorado.
