Lucia Magro’s breakout freshman season has earned her a place on the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team for 2026, a distinction that underscores her immediate impact at Temple University.
She started all 18 games, scoring nine goals and adding two assists for a total of 20 points, the highest tally by a Temple freshman since 1987.
Her performance placed her fifth in the conference for goals per game and ninth for points per game, reflecting a level of efficiency that caught the attention of coaches and analysts alike.
The accolades extended beyond the all-star selection; Magro was named to the NFHCA All-Mid-Atlantic Second Team, received the ECAC Rookie of the Year award, and earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST First Team, becoming the first Temple player to win a BIG EAST Rookie of the Year award since 2000.
A milestone for the program
Magro’s recognition represents a historic milestone for Temple’s field hockey program, highlighting the team’s ascent on the national stage and setting a foundation for future success.
Temple’s outlook remains optimistic despite being projected fourth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches’ Poll, a ranking that reflects both respect for the program’s progress and the competitiveness of the conference, with Liberty receiving all six first-place votes, UConn securing a second-place vote, and Old Dominion rounding out the top three.
The Owls will open their 2026 campaign on August 28 against James Madison before traveling to a tournament hosted by Maryland on August 30, where they will face a challenging slate of opponents.
