A Promising Prospect
Lugard Edokpayi, a 6‑foot‑7 defensive end who arrived at Michigan as a four‑star recruit from Maryland, is entering his redshirt sophomore season with the program.
After adding roughly 20 pounds to his frame since joining the Wolverines, Edokpayi has been working to translate his length and athleticism into production on the line.
His playing time has been limited thus far, largely because of the depth ahead of him, but the coaching staff sees untapped potential.
Coach Kyle Whittingham has publicly praised the youngster’s physical tools, noting that his long frame can create mismatches when he gets the right opportunities.
The defensive end position will see a shift this year with the addition of John Henry Daley, a potential All‑American pass rusher who arrived as a top prospect.
Daley, along with Cam Brandt, is projected to start, while Dominic Nichols and Nate Marshall are also in the mix, creating a competitive rotation.
True freshman Carter Meadows, a five‑star recruit, is also expected to contribute, adding further depth to the unit.
Edokpayi’s goal is clear: earn more snaps, become a key rotational piece by 2027, and help Michigan push for a stronger pass rush.
